Through Floor Lifts

Through floor lifts are the lifts that are installed to travel between floors and actually rise through the floor of a room. They accommodate wheelchairs, and consist of a small platform attached to a sturdy shaft that moves through a hole cut into the floor/ceiling of a building. They are ideal for installation in the homes of wheelchair users as they are relatively inexpensive and are particularly well suited to smaller buildings that can neither accommodate nor financially justify the installation of a stair lift or other means of disabled travel between floors. It is important to ensure a through floor lift is constructed to adhere to government safety standards so passengers are safe at all time.

A through floor lift is basically a platform that travels between the floors of a building. The wheelchair is placed on the platform, which is often gated to secure the wheelchair as it travels. Controls are placed on all the floors and on the platform to allow ultimate flexibility for the user. The platform is constructed carefully and the shaft designed to perfectly suit the location and to ensure the safety of the user at all times.

Things to consider when installing a through floor lift are width and height of the building and planned shaft, and expected load of the lift. The lift must be constructed to ideally suit its purpose and to carry the average capacity safely and with ease. It is important that the lift is made to be unique and perfectly installed so fit seamlessly in its environment. Other aspects such as décor and additional safety features can also be considered to customise the lift to the desire of the user. Safety features such as emergency alarm button and external power supply are available to be installed to ensure the safety and well being of passengers at all times.

It is a government requirement that public access buildings have some form of disabled access. The most common method is to install a stair lift or platform lift, but this is not always practical. The location that would normally benefit from the installation of a through floor lift would be the home of a wheelchair user. They allow the user freedom within their own home and prevent them from being restricted by their disability. This is extremely important in improving the independence and quality of life of a wheelchair user, and can be achieved by the simple installation of a through floor lift.
